Goa, an ever-effervescent state in India, attracts throngs of visitors from all over the world because
of its breathtaking beaches, mouthwatering cuisine, thrilling sports, flashy nightlife, and historical
structures. If you're considering taking a journey here, get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!
While you are in Goa, you can certainly participate in the typical tourist activities, but we advise you
to go above and beyond and discover the tranquil lakes there. A trip to the Goa lakes will
undoubtedly provide you with the much-needed respite from the monotony of city life as they are
removed from the bustle of the tourist attractions.
1) Carmbolim Lake
Plan a trip to the picturesque Carambolim Lake if you enjoy birdwatching; it is home to many native
and migratory bird species. This artificial lake was created to provide irrigation for the paddy fields
nearby, but the marshy soil and lush foliage turned into a refuge for birds. As a result, the
Carambolim Bird Sanctuary was established, together with the nearby woodland region and
freshwater lake.
The flora and beauty of this lake are at their best during the monsoon season, but January through
March is the best time to go birdwatching.
At Carambolim Lake, you can see a variety of bird species. The Cattle Egret, Pond Heron, Red-
rumped Swallow, Little Egret, Pheasant-Tailed Jacana, Coot, Bronze-Winged Jacana, and Purple
Moorhen are the birds that are most frequently seen.
Other species that can be seen at the lake include shovelers, cotton pygmy geese, open-billed storks,
marsh harriers, and garganeys. However, some of the birds—including the most well-known, the
pink flamingos—can only be seen in the winter.
A wide diversity of birds live in the trees that surround the lake. Finding a Brown Hawk Owl or Jungle
Owlet is always exciting. With its abundance of lilies, Indian Marsh Snowflakes, and nymphs, the lake
itself is a scene of breathtaking beauty.
3) Mayem Lake
The view from the lakeshore is truly breathtaking because this freshwater lake is located in a steep,
densely forested area.
A quick excursion from Mayem Lake will allow you to see the Corjeum Fort, Chamundi and
Rudreshwar temples, Arvalem Waterfall, and Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary in addition to taking in the
flora and animals there.
You will see various vendors selling coconut water and trinkets when you visit the lake. You fall in
love with the peaceful, meditative-like vista of the lake. If you stay long enough, you might see some
rare birds and ducks that generally stay at the further end of the lake.
3 Ambulor Lake
In the Salcette taluka, about 2 kilometres to the southwest of Verna Industrial Estate, is where you'll
find the Ambulor Lake. Goa is a great location for birdwatching because there are many herbivorous
species living there.
One can view birds such the Cotton Pygmy Goose, Cormorant, Northern Pintails, Lease Whistling
Duck, Waterfowl, Egrets, Jacanas, Moorhens, Brown Headed Gull, etc. because of the lake's diverse
ecosystem. The location is quite lovely because it also has paddy fields, trees, and woods. If you visit
Ambulor Lake, you can also see Udear Springs, a neighbouring natural spring.
4) Netravali Lake
Locals refer to this lovely lake, which is located in a small Goan village, as Budbudyachi Tali, which
means Bubble Lake since bubbles are always coming to the surface in various locations. Every time
someone claps close to Netravali Lake, a remarkable phenomenon that is absolutely worth seeing
occurs, the bubbles tend to speed up and climb.
Monsoons are not a bad period either, but October to March is the finest season to explore this
place's splendour. You might like seeing Gopinath Temple, Usgalimal Stone Age Rock, Savari and
Mainapi Waterfalls, and Salaulim Dam, among other surrounding sites.
5) Sarzora Lake
In the South Goa town of Sarzora, there is a charming hidden gem called the Sarzora Lake. This South
Goa community, which is 8 kilometres from the closest city of Margao and 2 kilometres from the
well-known village of Chinchinim, has a long history and a rich culture, the majority of which are still
practised today.
This is the perfect sanctuary for peace lovers because to the large, verdant fields and the tranquil
surroundings. The village's beauty is enhanced by the well-known Sarzora Lake and the spring
"makde-aambo." The impressive hills that tower over the settlement create a wonderful scenic
effect while also ensuring that the village receives a proper quantity of rainfall each year.
6) Batim Lake
There are several names for Batim Lake, including Bonda Lake, Bondovonnchem Tollem, and
Bondvol Lake. This lake is primarily a reservoir built for the dam, which supplies water to the nearby
areas and is used for agriculture as well as drinking. The area resembles a miniature version of a
beautiful wildlife sanctuary because it is one of the spots in Goa where flora and fauna dwell
together.
7) Raitollem Lake
This lake, which is a renowned tourist destination and one of Goa's most well-known lakes, is located
in the community of Curtorim. Many migratory birds make this natural body of water their home
during this time of year. One of the main activities carried out here is also the fishing industry. In
addition, the most recent beautifying project has improved the aesthetics of the area.
The lake is now quite a sight to behold thanks to the recently finished beautification project. If
